ABOUT THE
BIRGIT WERNER FOUNDATION
Encouragement of young women and women with cancer
Name giver is Dr. Birgit Simone Werner (1981-2019) who, from a young age, was one of Germany's most scientifically successful and internationally renowned doctors specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. Born in Dortmund, Würzburg became her second home; when she began studying medicine; a city in which she quickly put down roots and which remained the center of her life until her death.
In her will, she suggests that a foundation be set up from her estate that works for the equal participation of women in society - in the professional as well as in the cultural and social environment. With this in mind, the parents founded the Birgit Werner Foundation in 2019, an independent non-profit foundation under civil law.
One of the foundation's tasks is to promote the training and further education of girls and young women to develop independent and responsible personalities, among other things through activities in the areas of music and sport. Another central concern of the foundation is the support of young women with cancer, especially with regard to participation in social life.
According to the founders, all too often only the medical side is considered in young women with cancer. But normal life; is no less important, for example being present at sports, cultural events or general activities that strengthen the will to live of the sick women and give them new life energy. "The fulfillment of great wishes in life can work wonders for ones attitude to life, for the sick and for the family - and we want to help with that!", say the two founders.

WHAT DOES THE BIRGIT WERNER FOUNDATION DO?
The purpose/task of the foundation is finally regulated in the statutes. In short, this is the promotion of young girls and women in the fields of education, science and research; as well as support for needy young women (e.g. young women suffering from cancer). Networks should be created.
HOW IS THE FOUNDATION FINANCED?
The foundation's tasks are carried out from a part of the consumption capital paid in at the time of its foundation and from interest income and individual donations.
WHO DOES THE FOUNDATION SPECIFICALLY SUPPORT?
The foundation supports other foundations, charitable associations, public bodies and other groups of people who carry out projects developed together with the foundation in line with the purpose of the foundation. HOW OR WITH WHAT DOES THE FOUNDATION SUPPORT?
Support is provided in the form of financial donations, but personal, factual non-material donations to people in need are also possible.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE FOUNDATION?
The foundation can be supported by donations, which can also be granted specifically for a project.
An endowment in the assets of the foundation is possible. Voluntary help with projects also.
Donations by testamentary disposition should be accompanied by legal advice (notary or foundation advisor).
